Three areas, three different trade-offs

"Near the Vatican" covers three quite different neighbourhoods. Knowing the difference saves money and avoids surprises.

AreaGood forKeep in mind
Borgo (between St Peter's and Castel Sant'Angelo)Being able to walk to St Peter's Square in a few minutesBusiest streets in the area, small historic apartments, higher prices in pilgrimage periods
Prati (around Ottaviano and Via Cola di Rienzo)Shops, restaurants, wide 19th-century streets, Metro APopular and priced accordingly; many listings are in large condominium buildings
Valle Aurelia (west of the Vatican walls)Larger apartments for families and groups, a residential feel, Metro A and the FL3 regional train in the same station, free on-street parkingNot a postcard street: you are 1–2 metro stops from the Vatican, not on its doorstep

Our apartments are in Valle Aurelia. We think it is the best value for families and groups of 4–6 who want space and a kitchen, and we prefer to say so clearly rather than pretend we are next to the Basilica.

Real distances from Viale di Valle Aurelia 118

  • Valle Aurelia station (Metro A + FL3 train): about 300 m, 3 minutes on foot
  • Vatican Museums: 1.6 km, about 20 minutes on foot, or Metro A one stop to Cipro
  • St Peter's Square: Metro A two stops to Ottaviano, then a 10-minute walk; on foot it is a longer walk around the Vatican walls
  • Termini station: Metro A direction Anagnina, no changes
  • Aura shopping centre (Conad supermarket): 2 minutes on foot

Walking times measured with OpenStreetMap routing from the building; your pace and the entrance you use will change them a little.

How the price works when you book direct

We do not publish a fixed "from" price here because prices change with dates and the number of guests. The rule is simple and the same every day: the room price on our website is the Booking.com price for the same dates and guests, minus 10%. Cleaning is a fixed fee per stay (D1 and D4 €70, D2 €50) and the Rome city tax is paid separately (€6 per person per night, maximum 10 nights, children under 10 exempt).

Direct bookings can be cancelled free of charge up to 30 days before arrival; after that they are non-refundable. Bookings made on Booking.com or Airbnb follow the conditions shown there.

Frequently asked questions

Is Valle Aurelia within walking distance of the Vatican?

Yes. The Vatican Museums are 1.6 km from Viale di Valle Aurelia 118, about 20 minutes on foot. Many guests prefer one stop on Metro A to Cipro, especially on the way back.

Is there a lift?

No. The apartments are on the first floor, up one flight of stairs, and there is no lift. They are not suitable for guests who cannot climb stairs.

How does check-in work?

Self check-in from 15:00 with a personal code that opens the street door, the corridor door and your apartment. The code is activated after online check-in: identity documents of all guests and payment of the city tax.

Can we park a car?

On-street parking around the building is free (public spaces, not reserved). It is not a garage and a space is not guaranteed.

Why is booking direct cheaper?

Because there is no platform commission: the room price on our website is the Booking.com price minus 10% for the same dates and guests.

Book direct and save 10%

On the official website the room costs 10% less than on Booking.com for the same dates and number of guests. Free cancellation up to 30 days before arrival.
